A former student of Sifu Duncan Leung “Wayne Goss” currently is instructing a small group on Wing Chun Kung Fu. Wayne will be soon opening a Wing Chun school in the Phoenix Arizona area in hoping to spread his Wing Chun knowledge and experience out to the people.

In 1965, Wayne Goss began his martial arts training in the Texas Army National Guard.  During he’s time in the National Guard; Wayne learned self defense techniques and Tae Kwon Do.  After his time in the National Guard, Wayne joined the Navy in 1976.  During his 20 year career in the U.S. Navy, he was stationed in many different cities in United States and traveled to 23 different countries worldwide meeting many interesting martial art practitioners. At same year he joined Navy, Wayne was stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and started learning Wing Chun from Sifu Duncan Leung.  Soon after training with Duncan for a number of years, Wayne met Sifu Gorden Lu. At that time Sifu Gorden was an instructor at Sifu Duncan’s Wing Chun School.  After many years of training and working together, they became good friends.

Sifu Gorden’s patient, enthusiasm, and unique teaching method help Wayne to have a deeper understanding of Wing Chun.  Wayne says, “Sometimes it is difficult to describe the benefits of martial arts training. Much has been said and written on that subject. I believe the most important purpose of martial arts training is the ability to focus mentally and to focus physically. You have to focus to learn it, and that trains you to be more focused on all that you do.  That’s why some say it increases your concentration and coordination. It also gives you positive thinking. It has helped me deal with life’s tragedies. Of course martial art is mainly for self-defense but self-defense does not always mean physical force. At 60 years old, Wayne Goss forces himself to deal with limitations. Wayne still surprises friends, family and especially himself at what he can do.

We respect all martial arts, and we agree that a student should find the system and style that fits best. But, all martial arts should strive for the improvement of efficiency. Wing Chun is a product of that process. It is a very efficient system of fighting. Efficiency equals a better chance for survival.
